Pharmacy Technician - Oncology 40/D

Job Description

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Assists in the preparation of irrigation, intravenous admixture solutions, chemotherapy and other using aseptic technique.
• (must be able to perform repetitive hand motions for IV Room assignments and prepacking.)
• Fills unit dose, Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM), stock requisitions and maintain inventory levels in OR, Endo, OB and Oncology.
• Delivers unit dose, ADM refills, intravenous solution and necessary pharmaceutical supplies to the nursing units. (must be able to walk and/or stand for assigned shift)
• Fills medication labels, subject to final check by a pharmacist.
• Prepares pre-packaged medications in commonly used quantities.
• Affords assistance with inventory control of supplies and medications. Receives and shelves supplies and medications. Performs cycle counts and monthly review of stock for expired medications.
• Cleans pharmacy equipment, utensils and work areas.

Education/Experience Required

• Must be 18 years or age or older.
• Ability to read, write and understand English at the 12th Grade level, follow orders, and written and illustrated instruction. Ability to perform arithmetical computations (adds, subtract, etc.).
• Must have passed Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration exam; all requirements of Pharmacy Technician Trainee
• Must demonstrate competency in all IV admixture processes as confirmed in proficiency exercise as well as sterile procedures. Must have good math, computer, and communication skills. Oncology experience preferred.
• Must have current PTCB certification. Must remain certified (i.e.: continuing education and re-exam as required [staff personal responsibility]), if not re-certified, has 3 month to become reinstated or will be removed from position.

Registration/Certification

• Must be registered by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
• Must be certified by the PTCB (Pharmacy Tech Certification Board).
• Must maintain license from Board of Pharmacy and continuing education requirements for PTCB.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

• This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting.
• Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use.
• Constant concentration and problem solving.

Pay Range

$21.27 – $38.03
