Pharmacy Technician Level 3
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician will primarily support a centralized prior authorization clinic in West Michigan, MI. Pharmacy technician support involves resolving and appealing prior authorization claims from Trinity Health Medical Group. The technician may also support other ambulatory pharmacy clinics as needed.
What the Pharmacy Technician will Need
- Minimum High school education or equivalent.
- PREFERRED completion of formal pharmacy technician training program.
- MINIMUM Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan (LPhT) AND nationally certified as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
- MINIMUM One year of pharmacy work experience.
- PREFERRED Previous experience in multiple healthcare settings.
- PREFERRED Previous experience working within multi-disciplinary teams
Under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will:
- Assists Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records.
- Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.
Essential Functions
- Prepares, packages, and distributes medication orders per physician/pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and established policies, procedures, or protocols.
- Contributes to effective and quality operation of the department.
- Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation, files documentation.
- Completes third party adjudication for prescription claims.
- Utilizes computerized prescription dispensing system to complete the following aspects of filling patient prescriptions:
- Create patient profiles.
- Prescription data input.
- Third party/insurance processing.
- Prescription refilling
- Works Epic Multi-Step Order Transmittal work queue.
- Performs simple pharmaceutical calculations including, but not limited to, days’ supply and weight-based dosing calculations.
- Collects payments using point-of-sale system.
- Participates in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
