Core Job Functions
- Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information and maintains patient records.
- Fills orders and prepares labels for unit doses and prepackaged pharmaceuticals.
- Implements inventory control procedures and ordering supplies within regulatory guidelines.
- Anticipates pharmacy medication dispensing needs.
- Responsible for hazardous, specialized, or advanced level compounding, which may include chemotherapy, epidural, ophthalmology, CADD pumps, and TPNs.
- Serves as a Pharmacy Technician Coordinator, as needed.
- May also be cross trained in major department roles and responsibilities of a pharmacy technician.
- Participates in a temporary taskforce/short-term committee.
- Resolves problems related to prescription inquiries.
- Performs the preceptor role in the training of students and onboarding of new pharmacy technicians.
- Serves as a mentor or role model.
- Stays abreast of advanced knowledge and proficient practice in pharmacy dispensing, medication dispensing systems, controlled substance distribution to floors, pre-packing and any other pharmacy technician duties.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license.
Experience: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience required.
Certification and Licensing: Valid State of Florida Registered Pharmacy Technician license required.
