About the role

Under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist, assists Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, packages, and distributes medication orders per physician/pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, or protocols.
  • Aid with drug procurement and inventory management.
  • Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to effective and quality operation of the department.
  • Maintain logs, records, and other required documentation; files documentation; answers telephone and pneumatic tube (where applicable); and handles cash transactions.
  • Completes third party adjudication for prescription claims and processes return to stocks according to policy.
  • Utilizes computerized prescription dispensing system to complete the following aspects of filling patient prescriptions:
    • Create patient profiles.
    • Prescription data input
    • Third party/insurance processing
    • Prescription refilling
  • Performs simple pharmaceutical calculations including, but not limited to, days’ supply and weight-based dosing calculations.
  • Collects payments using point-of-sale system.
  • Participates in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education— Minimum: High School education or equivalent.
Preferred: Completion of formal pharmacy technician training program.

Credentials/Licensure— Minimum: Pharmacy Technician License (issued by Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Professional Licensing)
Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

Related Experience— Preferred: 1+ years pharmacy work experience in retail pharmacy setting
