Responsibilities

  • Prepare medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision.
  • Verify all orders for completeness, accuracy, and insurance approval; ensure proper patient information and physician authorization.
  • Admix drugs as ordered by a physician in an accurate and timely manner, adhering to department, OSHA, and interoffice guidelines.
  • Calculate correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Maintain indigent patient drug program as assigned.
  • Maintain current drug information and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Aid lead admixture/pharmacy technician in ensuring standard drug supplies are adequate in all departments.
  • Aid in controlled substance record keeping in accordance with practice guidelines, state and federal regulations.
  • Dispose of materials used in mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs in accordance with practice guidelines, state and federal law.
  • Clean hoods daily, check drugs monthly for outdates, and perform and document other quality assurance activities.
  • Manage inventory appropriately, including proper documentation of inventory quantities, lot numbers and expiration dating when appropriate.
  • Provide support across the medication use continuum including label preparation, documentation, perform basic data entry and pre-billing review, assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admixture area and the pharmacy department in accordance with state rules and USP compliance.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills.
  • I.V. certification preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate recommended unless required by state law.

Physical Demands

  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to read and note appropriate measurements.
  • Sitting/standing for extensive periods.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Regular exposure to direct contact with patients with potential for exposure to toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and chemotherapeutic agents.

Pay

The general pay scale for this position at MOH is $18.73- $28.81 per hour. The actual hiring rate is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to prior work experience, education, job/position responsibilities, location, work performance, etc.
