Pharmacy Technician II

Responsibilities

• Fills and refills patient medications, team member prescriptions, and departmental requisitions.
• Performs basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Assembles IVPB units, such as Minibag Plus (not sterile admixture).
• Credits and debits patients for medications through the hospital's computer system.
• Delivers and charges medications to all hospital areas.
• Uses pneumatic tube system for appropriate drug deliveries.
• Packages oral solid and liquid medications.
• Restocks automated dispensing machines.
• Performs loads and unloads of drugs in automated dispensing machines.
• Optimizes automated dispensing machines to minimize expired drugs and to ensure nurses have what they need by avoiding stock outs.
• Refills crash cart trays, emergency wall drug boxes, Anesthesia emergency boxes, and procedure tackle boxes.
• Performs drug counts and site audits of medications areas.
• Checks and removes expired medications from all drug storage areas.
• Orders appropriate drug quantities from main pharmaceutical distributor.
• Receives drug orders into the pharmaceutical distributor’s online system.
• Proactively identifies opportunities to improve department processes and issues.
• Performs quality improvement and continuous performance improvement processes as assigned by Director.
• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
• Utilizes assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
• Maintains adherence to safety protocols at all times.
• Must adhere to safety protocols at all times.
• Must be able to read, write and perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Must be 18 years old or older.

Qualifications

• Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English.
• Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive/email and navigate information technology associated with the position.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations.
• Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two (2) years hospital pharmacy experience.
• Completed IV training and competency at DRH or completed advanced training in the retail computer system AND completed competency in third-party insurance coordination-of-benefits (COB).
• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. At least two (2) years hospital pharmacy experience. • Must be able to read, write and perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Must be 18 years old or older.
• Current Pharmacy Technician permit issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.
• National Pharmacy Technician Certification from PTCB or NHA.
• For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
