About the role

The MGB Controlled Substance Auditor Certified Pharmacy Technician supports the diversion prevention and controlled substance compliance programs across one or more MGB locations through detailed operational auditing, data analysis, and reconciliation activities. This role is responsible for monitoring controlled substance transactions across multiple systems, identifying discrepancies, variances, and unusual patterns, and maintaining accurate audit documentation and records in alignment with regulatory requirements. The technician serves as a critical partner in surveillance and investigation processes by compiling data, preparing case summaries, and escalating potential risks to the pharmacist for clinical review and decision-making. Through disciplined monitoring, thorough documentation, and reliable reporting, this role strengthens oversight, supports regulatory compliance, and contributes to a high-reliability approach to controlled substance stewardship and risk detection.

Responsibilities

• Monitor controlled substance transactions across multiple systems

• Maintain accurate audit documentation and records in alignment with regulatory requirements
• Compile data and prepare case summaries for surveillance and investigation processes
• Escalate potential risks to the pharmacist for clinical review and decision-making

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required (experience cannot substitute for this requirement)
• Pharmacy Technician State License required
• Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required
• 0-1 year of pharmacy technician experience required

Skills

• Ability to read, interpret, and follow verbal and written instructions, including department policies and procedures
• Understand HIPAA privacy rules and use discretion handling patient-related information
• Adhere to safety requirements for handling non-hazardous and hazardous medications in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements
• Proficient with math calculations associated with assigned responsibilities
• Ability to distinguish routine functions from those requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment
• Ability to work with sustained attention and care on routine, repetitive tasks
• Knowledge and ability to handle controlled substances in accordance with state regulations
• Multitask and prioritize tasks under time constraints
• Organize and maintain efficient work areas
• Command of area-specific technology, including robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems

Additional Details

This is an onsite role located at 75 Francis Street with scheduled weekly hours of 40.

Pay

$22.84 - $29.79/hour (Grade 4). At Mass General Brigham, base pay is determined by skills, relevant experience, education, certifications, and other essential factors.
