Pharmacy Technician I - Outpatient Pharmacy

Schedule

Candidate must have availability to work between 7:30 AM and 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday; weekend and holiday rotation required (every 3rd weekend); holiday rotation includes one major and one minor holiday.

Responsibilities

• Accepts prescriptions, establishes billing/patient charges, documents patients’ allergies correctly, interprets and enters information regarding the outpatient prescription into the computer system.
• Serves as call center agent; answers the telephone and assists caller or forwards to appropriate individual (pharmacist, pharmacy administration, etc.).
• Prepares and packages medications for outpatient use.
• Independently resolves on-line adjudication problems with third party payors.
• Replenishes pharmacy stock area and notifies inventory coordinators of concerns.

Requirements

• Education: As required by listed licensure and/or certification requirement.
• Licensure: Board of Pharmacy Technician License (Registered or Certified); Technician Trainee accepted with expectation to become registered or certified within 90 days of hire.
• Certifications: Certification as a pharmacy technician or documented passing score on certification exam prior to start date (PTCB, ExCPT) required.
• Experience: Six months of previous pharmacy experience preferred.
• Physical Requirements:
  • Occasionally: Biohazard waste, interpreting data, lifting/carrying 11-20 lbs, machinery, pushing/pulling 0-25 lbs, sitting.
  • Frequently: Bend/twist, communicable diseases and/or pathogens, decision making, lifting/carrying 0-10 lbs, problem solving, squat/kneel.
  • Continuously: Audible speech, chemicals/medications, color vision, computer skills, depth perception, flexing/extending of neck, hand use (grasping, gripping, turning), hearing acuity, peripheral vision, reaching above shoulder, repetitive hand/arm use, seeing far/near, standing, walking.

Skills

• Demonstrated skills in algebra by passing score on math competency administered on site.
