About the role

Work directly with patients, Specialty Pharmacy staff, and clinic staff to manage the specialty medication needs of Mass General Brigham patients. Coordinate with pharmacy and medical/nursing staff to meet complex medication needs while providing extraordinary service. Assist patients with benefit coordination, financial assistance, prior authorizations, and ensure timely medication delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Work with physicians, nurses, and pharmacists to ensure patients receive medications at the appropriate time:
    • Review medication regime with patient to determine which medications need to be dispensed
    • Process medication orders confirming correct billing to all third parties
    • Monitor patient concerns, charts, and profiles to meet medication therapy needs
  • Support Mass General Brigham Specialty Pharmacy (MGBSP) Patient Needs:
    • Answer patient questions about service, insurance issues, and financial assistance needs
    • Ensure all questions are answered timely and accurately
    • Escalate clinical questions appropriately to a pharmacist
    • Train and ensure employee back-up coverage is knowledgeable
    • Report any Patient Safety Events according to MGB SP guidelines
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with pharmacists, coworkers, prescribers, nurses, and patients to support services provided
  • Provide caring service, adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences
  • Improve processes to facilitate communication and service between patient, clinic, infusion center, and discharge pharmacy teams
  • Participate in MGB SP Clinical Subcommittees
  • Act as the Insurance Specialist:
    • Understand Medicare/Medicaid regulations and billing guidelines as they pertain to patient pharmacy benefits
    • Understand billing for primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance claims
    • Resolve billing issues and obtain Prior Authorizations for medications
    • Obtain benefit information, verify patient insurance eligibility and level of coverage
  • Cross-train within Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) roles to support emergent and ongoing business needs
  • Provide on-call support on a scheduled rotation
  • Respect the confidentiality of all information, including patient, staff, and Health System business issues

Requirements

  • Pharmacy technician experience, or equivalent combination of education and related experience working directly with patients in a healthcare setting
  • Experience with prior authorizations, medication, and financial assistance renewals is a plus
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Access)
  • Experience with Pharmacy, EPIC, or similar medical record software is a plus
  • Registered with State Board of Pharmacy or willingness to become registered upon hire
  • CPhT-Certified Pharmacy Technician License in the State of Massachusetts
  • High School diploma/GED
  • Excellent customer service skills, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the English language
  • Good attention to detail, ability to problem solve effectively
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures
  • Basic math skills, advanced computer skills, and proficient with medical terminology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in a healthcare-related field or four-year degree with experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience working with patients receiving Specialty Medications
  • Proficiency in other languages is a plus

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM EST
  • Scheduled weekly hours: 40
  • 100% onsite in Burlington, MA

Pay

Pay range: $ - $31.71/hourly (Grade 4). Base pay is determined by skills, relevant experience, education, certifications, and other essential factors. Offers may include comprehensive benefits, career advancement opportunities, differentials, premiums, bonuses, and recognition programs.
