About the role

The Pharmacy Technician under the direct supervision of a Maryland-licensed pharmacist assists in the timely preparation, packaging, distribution, and delivery of medications. Tasks are performed in accordance with established Departmental procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently prepares medications for pharmacist check, adhering to workflow SOPs and time constraints.
  • Maintains knowledge of AAMC Department of Pharmacy standards and practices through ongoing competency assessments.
  • Delivers medications manually, via pneumatic tube, or refills automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Maintains medication storage environments and monitors for compliance with regulations.
  • Complies with federal, state, and department policies regarding controlled substance distribution and management.
  • Answers phone calls and responds to med messages professionally, following up appropriately.
  • Ensures compliance with USP797 and 800 guidelines for cleanroom environmental maintenance and compounding sterile products.
  • Performs required mathematical calculations and conversions.
  • Generates and accurately interprets reports from the hospital information system and other computer-based technology.
  • Participates in emergency drug supply system and specialty tray maintenance.
  • Provides clear and accurate instructions to new employees and reviews their work for accuracy.
  • Identifies and contributes to workplace improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Pharmacy experience in hospital or retail setting preferred.
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern from the Maryland Board of Pharmacy; in good standing.
  • PTCB Certified or ExCPT (National Pharmacy Technician Board Certification).
