About the role

Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in accordance with Service Excellence Standards and Core Values. Implements a bedside program to help patients receive their medication and prescription education upon discharge, including gathering patient information, marketing the program, and processing prescriptions requested by the patient. Works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure patients are able to receive their medications upon discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Exhaust all efforts to communicate with the patient regarding any issue or delay in filling prescriptions.
  • Notify the pharmacist and contact the provider in a timely manner when there is a concern about a prescription related to drug interactions, allergies, drug-disease state interactions, and other circumstances as indicated.
  • Investigate and resolve third-party payment issues.
  • Maintain proper records and documents as required by state and federal laws.
  • Submit data collection daily on patient and prescription count.
  • Post transactions in the delivery bin and handle cash register transactions, correcting issues related to posted transactions.
  • Participate in meetings with other departments as they relate to discharge patients.
  • Prioritize and fill prescriptions based on specifics such as waiters, discharges, Pyxis, etc., to ensure patients receive excellent care and service.
  • Work with pharmacists, other technicians, and healthcare members to assist patients with dropping off or picking up prescriptions, including cash register transactions.
  • Ensure all supplies, including vials, caps, bottles, labels, paper, toners, oral syringes, and bags, are adequately stocked each day and inventory is maintained.
  • Fill bottles and affix appropriate labels for verification by the pharmacist.
  • Load prescription bags into the will-call system and consolidate daily.
  • Follow procedure to properly return to stock medications and receive courier bags.
  • Accurately count and close each register nightly, create a daily deposit form, make change for the bank each morning, and maintain accuracy when counting money at each transaction.
  • Maintain and refill the robot daily.
  • Assist the pharmacist in daily operations of the outpatient pharmacy.
  • Participate in department huddles.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Maintain a current state certification with the South Carolina State Board of Pharmacy.
