About the role
This position is responsible for providing timely preparation and distribution of medications and IV solutions within the hospital in conjunction with established guidelines, policies and procedures, and statutory requirements. The incumbent is expected to provide optimal patient care by recognizing differences in drug therapy (i.e. drug, dose & frequency) in pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide optimal patient care by recognizing differences in drug therapy (i.e. drug, dose & frequency) in pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Assist the pharmacist in the timely and accurate distribution of medications.
- Enter medication orders into the pharmacy computer system; maintain and update the patient pharmacy profile; refer discrepancies, interactions for outpatient prescriptions and all therapeutic questions to the pharmacist.
- Prepare medication cassettes and deliver to nursing units throughout the hospital (inpatient only).
- Pull, prepare and label medications based on the orders entered by a pharmacist.
- Pull and deliver medications for automated dispensing machines.
- Aid in the training of new technicians.
- Work varying shifts and days to meet the needs of the department which operates 24 hours a week (Cost Center 200 only).
- Attend staff meetings, technician meetings, etc.
Requirements
- Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.
- Prefer high School Diploma, (or equivalent), proficient math skills.
- Recognized Pharmacy Technician training program, nationally certified (CPhT), and/or Registered Pharmacy Intern preferred.
- Specialized training is encouraged, and can be enhanced by completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technician training program, 1 year prior experience in a hospital or community pharmacy, or be enrolled in an ACPE accredited PharmD program if applying as a pharmacy intern.
- For 200234, two (2) years of sterile compounding experience required, sterile chemotherapy preparation preferred.
- Registered by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacy Technician in Training, or as a Pharmacy Intern. Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician or as a Pharmacy Intern by first work anniversary.
- Completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technician training program, have national certification, or have pharmacy intern certificate of registration preferred.
