Responsibilities
- Assists the pharmacist in organizing the pharmacy workload.
- Performs prescription/order data entry, generates prescription labels, compounding documents and delivery slips under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Compounds and prepares pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment under the direct supervision of a pharmacist as allowed by state and federal law and in accordance with USP 797, company policies and accrediting entity standards.
- Cleans, tests, maintains and tracks pumps and other infusion equipment as requested.
- Performs and records various quality control activities including air sampling, bacterial counts, and Steri-Testing.
- Reports all “positive” results to the pharmacy supervisor immediately.
- Maintains clean room suites and related equipment according to organizational policy and procedure, USP 797, USP 800 and state and federal regulations.
- Updates patient's demographic information in the electronic information management system as needed and ongoing.
- Answers/triages telephone calls and provides non-clinical assistance to callers as appropriate or directs callers to appropriate department.
- Proactively manages patients' medication/supply/equipment inventory needs by communicating with patient or responsible party prior to filling anticipated needs.
- Ensures authorization to receive payment for services rendered is in place prior to shipping medications, supplies and equipment to patients.
- Tracks and retrieves patient laboratory results for pharmacists and fax results to prescribers and other healthcare providers involved in a patient's care.
- Documents all communication with physicians, referral sources, nurses, patients and caregivers in the electronic information management system as required.
- Aids in managing and ordering patient start of care forms and other pharmacy forms.
- Generates and distributes quality assurance and management reports as assigned.
- Communicates any and all nurse, patient and caregiver clinical concerns and questions to the pharmacist, pharmacy manager or other appropriate clinical staff.
- Prepares and places orders for needed drugs, supplies and equipment, and stock/maintain such materials upon receipt.
- Participates in the KabaFusion Performance Improvement (PL) program.
- Supports other local office departments as needed.
- Completes required documentation on QA/QC records and compounding documents.
- Plans work to ensure cost-effective delivery methods are utilized.
Qualifications
- Education or experience equivalent to a high school diploma is required.
- Current and violation-free Pharmacy Technician licensure or certification as required by State law in the state requesting employment.
