Pharmacy Technician

Responsibilities

  • Fills and refills patient medications, team member prescriptions, and departmental requisitions.
  • Performs basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Assembles IVPB units, such as Minibag Plus (not sterile admixture).
  • Credits and debits patients for medications through the hospital's computer system.
  • Delivers and charges medications to all hospital areas.
  • Uses pneumatic tube system for appropriate drug deliveries.
  • Packages oral solid and liquid medications.
  • Restocks automated dispensing machines.
  • Performs loads and unloads of drugs in automated dispensing machines.
  • Optimizes automated dispensing machines to minimize expired drugs and to ensure nurses have what they need by avoiding stock outs.
  • Refills crash cart trays, emergency wall drug boxes, Anesthesia emergency boxes, and procedure tackle boxes.
  • Performs drug counts and site audits of medications areas.
  • Checks and removes expired medications from all drug storage areas.
  • Orders appropriate drug quantities from main pharmaceutical distributor.
  • Receives drug orders into the pharmaceutical distributor’s online system.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve department processes and issues.
  • Performs quality improvement and continuous performance improvement processes as assigned by Director.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
  • Utilizes assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
  • Maintains adherence to safety protocols at all times.
  • Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.

Qualifications

  • Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English.
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive/email and navigate information technology associated with the position.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations.
  • Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Current Pharmacy Technician permit issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy; May have up to 90 days to obtain after date of hire or transfer.
