Pharmacy Technician

In Retail locations, Technicians are often the first point of contact, assisting patients and customers with heartfelt service while supporting safe, accurate and efficient prescription fulfillment.
Responsibilities
- Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
- Execute pharmacy workflow procedures at production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off stations to ensure safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Create positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: personalize interactions at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services; and resolve or escalate patient concerns.
- Perform basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership, including putting away medication deliveries, completing cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
- Contribute to a high-performing team by embracing a growth mindset, seeking feedback, and expanding clinical and technical knowledge to better assist patients.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including voluntarily traveling to stores in the market to work shifts as needed.
- Comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles, as well as CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, controlled substance compliance, and patient privacy.
- Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing) where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification.
- If permissible, support immunizations by completing additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status, preparing and administering vaccines, educating patients, monitoring for adverse reactions, and managing vaccine supplies.
Requirements
- Must comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
- If the state board of pharmacy does not mandate a minimum age, must be at least 16 years of age.
- If the state board of pharmacy does not mandate a minimum education requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in a high school or high school equivalency program.
- State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
Essential Functions

- Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
- Attention and Focus: Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time and pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
- Customer Service and Team Orientation: Actively look for ways to help people in a friendly manner; notice and understand patients’ reactions and respond appropriately.
- Communication Skills: Use and understand verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues; practice active listening by giving full attention, asking questions, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Mathematical Reasoning: Use math to solve problems such as determining the total number of tablets to dispense, day’s supply, and/or number of bottles needed to fill a prescription.
- Problem Resolution: Identify challenging patient or colleague interactions and choose the best course of action when faced with multiple options.
- Physical Demands: Be mobile and remain upright for extended periods; lift, scan, and bag items; reach overhead; move fingers repetitively; extend arms in multiple directions; stoop; perform close visual acuity tasks; lift up to 20 lbs occasionally, 10 lbs frequently, and a negligible amount consistently.
- Ability to express or exchange ideas by spoken word with accuracy and receive detailed oral communication.
- Perform any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–3 years of previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to work in the home store and across the market in other locations to meet business needs.
Pay
The typical pay range for this role is $17.92 – $27.92 per hour. The actual base salary offer will depend on experience, education, geography, and other relevant factors.
Schedule
Part time; 20 anticipated weekly hours.
