Pharmacy Technician

About the role

At CVS Health, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to deliver operational and service excellence within our retail locations. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist patients and customers, ensuring pharmacy operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and patients receive exceptional, compassionate care.

Once in role, Technicians must complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Until these requirements are met, duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager.

Responsibilities

• Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support safe and effective pharmacy operations.
• Adhere to pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off) for accurate prescription fulfillment.
• Create positive patient experiences by demonstrating empathy and genuine care during interactions at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone.
• Offer immunizations and other health services at the register and over the phone to support patient health.
• Solve or escalate patient problems with compassionate care.
• Complete basic inventory activities, such as putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
• Contribute to a high-performing team by embracing a growth mindset, seeking feedback, and expanding clinical and technical knowledge.
• Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including voluntarily traveling to other stores in the market to work shifts as required.
• Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles, including CVS policies for patient safety, controlled substance dispensing, and patient privacy.
• Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, and offsite clinics) where permissible by law and supported by required training.

Immunization Support (where permissible)

• Complete additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status, in compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations.
• Educate patients about the importance of vaccines and refer them to the Pharmacist-on-duty for questions.
• Monitor and respond to adverse reactions, reporting events as required by public health guidelines.
• Review, collect, track, and document patient information for vaccine administration.
• Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.

Requirements

• Must comply with all state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing pharmacy practice, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
• If the state board of pharmacy does not mandate a minimum age requirement, must be at least 16 years of age.
• If the state board of pharmacy does not mandate a minimum educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program.

• Problem Resolution: Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action when faced with multiple options.
• Physical Demands:
  • Remain mobile and upright for extended periods.
  • Lift, scan, and bag items.
  • Reach overhead, stretch, or reach out to grasp items.
  • Move fingers repetitively for tasks like picking, pinching, typing, or working with fingers.
  • Extend hands and arms in multiple directions to place, move, or lift items.
  • Control precision, such as adjusting machines to exact positions.
  • Stoop considerably, using lower extremities and back muscles to move items between low and high positions.
  • Close visual acuity for activities like transcribing, reading, and inspecting small parts.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs and/or exert up to 20 lbs of force; frequently lift up to 10 lbs and/or exert up to 10 lbs of force; consistently lift and/or exert negligible force.
  • Express or exchange ideas through spoken word to convey detailed or important instructions accurately.
  • Receive detailed information through oral communication.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1-3 years of previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
• Ability to work in the home store and travel to other locations in the market to meet business needs.

Schedule

This is a part-time role requiring a minimum of 20 hours per week. Shift flexibility is required, including the ability to work nights, weekends, and travel to other stores in the market as needed by the business.

Pay

The typical pay range for this role is $18.80 - $28.80 per hour. The actual base hourly rate will depend on factors such as experience, education, geography, and other relevant considerations.
