About the Role

Provides distributive pharmacy services, assistance, and support for the registered pharmacist at Kindred Hospital Albuquerque, a long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital specializing in the treatment of patients recovering from post-intensive care and medically complex conditions. The hospital offers intensive care and telemetry-level services with advanced monitoring and support for extended medical care.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Pharmacist to prepare and dispense medication.
  • Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and prepares labels for bottles.
  • Fills orders with correct medications and prepares unit-of-use dosages when possible.
  • Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patients, computes charges, and enters data in computer.
  • Prepares intravenous (IV) packs and generates required reports (e.g., pick IV, production reports).
  • Performs backup procedures correctly and recycles product as appropriate.
  • Changes prep and expiration dates on recycled product, dates/times/initials all vials for reuse.
  • Prioritizes work (e.g., stats made first) and delivers IVs to proper locations.
  • Restocks shelves, rotates stock, and properly disposes of non-recyclable solutions.
  • Maintains IV refrigerator temperature log.
  • Receives and stores incoming supplies, counts stock, and enters data in computer to maintain inventory records.
  • Returns medications to stock, rotates stock, and fills requisitions from Nursing floors in a timely fashion.
  • Calculates appropriate medication doses based on patient’s age (Adult and Geriatrics).
  • Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
  • Adheres to dress code, maintains neat and clean appearance, and wears appropriate identification while on duty.
  • Completes annual health, safety, and education requirements.
  • Maintains professional growth and development.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and/or employee information.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Reports to work on time as scheduled; adheres to policies regarding notification of absence.
  • Attends all mandatory in-services and staff meetings.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Maintains current licensure/certification for position, if applicable.
  • Consistently demonstrates guest relations skills to patients, physicians, visitors, employees, and others.
  • Follows departmental and hospital Health, Safety, Security, and Hazardous Materials policies and procedures.
  • Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with HIPAA privacy laws and hospital policy for patient confidentiality.
  • Identifies patient confidentiality issues and reports them to proper hospital personnel immediately.
  • Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with ScionHealth’s Code of Conduct, policy and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role).
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician (PHRMTECH-R) or licensure as a Pharmacy Technician with the applicable State Board of Pharmacy (required where mandated by state law).
  • 1+ years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting (preferred).
  • Combination of education and training in the basic understanding of the role and use of a computer in processing prescription orders with minimum word processing skills (preferred).
