About the role
The successful candidate will be responsible for improving medication access for UC San Diego Health patients by investigating insurance benefits and completing the necessary work to provide the medication at the lowest possible out-of-pocket expense. They will work closely with pharmacists, other pharmacy colleagues, clinic staff, and providers to ensure these services are provided efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Investigate insurance benefits and complete necessary work to provide medications at the lowest possible out-of-pocket expense.
- Oversight of benefits investigation compliance and reporting any inconsistencies to the pharmacist in charge.
- Work with pharmacists, other pharmacy colleagues, clinic staff, and providers to improve medication access.
Requirements
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required for Pharmacy Tech III.
- Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy required for both Pharmacy Tech II/III.
- Minimum of two (2) years for Pharmacy Tech II of retail experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years for Pharmacy Tech III of retail experience.
- Thorough knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations.
- Proficient computer experience and accurate data entry skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3+) or more years experience with outpatient pharmacy prescription billing.
- Specialty Pharmacy Medication understanding or direct training in specialty disease states.
- Epic Willow Ambulatory experience.
- Comfortable with public speaking and able to promote a justifiable position.
- Experience communicating with provider and provider office staff.
- 340b regulatory knowledge and background.
- Flexible to address any pharmacy need that may arise, especially those that are unexpected or sudden.

Pay & Benefits
Annual Full Pay Range: $57,754 - $71,827 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $27.66 - $34.40
