Pharmacy Tech II -Dacoma

About the role

The Pharmacy Technician II in this position will be a Certified Pharmacy Technician and have a CPhT through the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. The incumbent will perform processes required for preparing consumer prescriptions according to the rules and regulations of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician II will perform duties and tasks associated with assisting customers with enrolling in Patient Assistance programs. This role provides both inpatient and outpatient support relative to pharmacy functions including medication orders and prescriptions. In this position the Pharmacy Tech II will enter physician orders accurately into pharmacy system, including medication strength and route.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients with prescribing to Patient Assistance Programs to acquire “free medication” where applicable and appropriate for the patient.
• Prepares prescriptions.
• Pre-packs supplies, generates reports and maintains appropriate inventory levels.
• Conducts monthly unit inspections where medications are dispensed, stored, and administered; identifies and retrieves outdated supplies.
• Orders pharmaceuticals and supplies in a manner that optimizes cost and contract compliance.
• Maintains compliance with agency educational and licensure requirements.
• Outpatient: Accurately enters patient information into Pharmacy Computer system.
• Outpatient: Enters correct medication information, including medication strength and route.
• In-patient: Must be knowledgeable of CPEP formulary to answer questions from physicians and nurses as to what medications are available and strengths.
• In-patient: Prepares unit of use when possible.
• Pyxis Med Station responsibilities: Pulling correct unit dose medications.
• Pyxis Med Station responsibilities: Correctly fills medications into unit of use bins.
• Pyxis Med Station responsibilities: Reconcile dispensed/ordered medication report.
• Performs monthly nursing unit inspections: PES/CSU/CRU/PH-CRU.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Certified Pharmacy Technician License (CPhT) through the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required.
• 2 years of related experience working in a pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician, minimum 1 year as a pharmacy tech, and 1 year experience working in independent pharmacy assistance program (PAP) functions.
• Must have a valid Texas Driver’s license.
• Pyxis Med Station experience.
• Must have some hospital pharmacy experience.
• 2 years of retail pharmacy experience preferred.
• Able to utilize basic Word and Excel documents.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively converse and listen to others and construct clear and concise written communication.
