Pharmacy Tech I - Skywalk Retail

About the role

Under the supervision of a staff pharmacist, the technician is responsible for providing technical support to pharmacists at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. This includes, but is not limited to, the preparation, packaging, and delivery of medications for both inpatients and outpatients.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation, packaging, labeling, and delivery of medications.
• Prepares all forms of medication (e.g., oral, rectal, IV solutions, and syringes) for hospital patients in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Prepares and delivers unit dose medication cassettes to their respective units.
• Makes necessary modifications within the medication preparation process.
• For sterile product preparation, utilizes aseptic technique and is knowledgeable of USP 797 guidelines; meets required competencies per USP 797.
• Interacts and communicates with patients, families, and other medical personnel appropriately during medication delivery.
• Handles narcotics according to policy and procedures; provides information to resolve discrepancies.
• Effectively prioritizes workload to meet and exceed internal and external customer expectations.
• Assists in the daily functioning and maintenance of inpatient and outpatient pharmacy automation technologies; troubleshoots as necessary.
• Processes patient admissions, discharges, and transfers according to policies and procedures.
• Stocks pharmaceuticals in inpatient, outpatient, and satellite areas, including ordering medications, checking for outdates, and cleaning respective areas.
• Performs inspections of medication rooms, clinics, and code carts as assigned.
• Answers and responds to phone calls from parents, other hospitals, or healthcare professionals.
• Accurately maintains stock and narcotic counts in Automated Dispensing Units.
• Assists nursing staff with issues related to Automated Dispensing Units.

Requirements

• High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required.
• Graduate of a pharmacy tech program preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in a pharmaceutical environment preferred.

Skills

• Good interpersonal and customer relations skills to communicate effectively with hospital personnel and families.
• Ability to work well under pressure due to time constraints and varying workloads.
• Strong attention to detail and concentration.
• Proficiency in operating computers for generating lists, processing medication orders, entering charges/credits, generating labels, retrieving patient information, and handling automated dispensing unit functions.

Qualifications

• License Pharmacy Technician (41) - State of Wisconsin required.
