PHARMACY TECH I

About the Role

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performs all functions pertaining to the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of all medications at Cumberland Medical Center, a part of Covenant Health in Crossville, Tennessee.

Responsibilities

• Fills medication orders and outpatient prescriptions to be verified by pharmacist.
• Assists the pharmacists with the maintenance of the computerized patient profile system and related transactions.
• Responsible for maintenance of a 24-hour inpatient medication supply.
• Prepares extemporaneous unit dose medications.
• Verifies integrity of emergency carts throughout the medical center.
• Communicates with patient-care areas to facilitate expedient medication delivery.
• Demonstrates proficiency in aseptic techniques and basic IV preparation support.
• Performs mathematical calculations for medication volumes and metric measurements.
• Reconciles IV doses and documents discrepancies.
• Transmits drug orders to wholesaler.
• Accurately stocks pharmacy inventory and rotates stock to ensure adequate supply.
• Monitors expiration dates on all medications.
• Maintains inventory adhering to contracted products and formulary items.
• Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Completes required education assignments annually.
• Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the required license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
• Minimum Experience: None

Licensure Requirement

The Tennessee Board of Pharmacy requires newly hired probationary employees to be licensed by the end of their first 90 days of hire and to maintain their Technician License in active status thereafter.
