Pharmacy Tech Certified [Full Time] - Outpatient Pharmacy

About the role

Regional One Health is currently seeking a full-time Certified Pharmacy Technician for our Outpatient Pharmacy.

Requirements

• National Certification such as PTCB or NHA
• Tennessee Pharmacy Technician License

Responsibilities

• Performs technical pharmacy services under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Prepares unit dose medications and fills unit dose carts.
• Calculates, weighs, and compounds ingredients to prepare non-sterile pharmaceutical products.
• Prepares, labels, and documents IV products using aseptic techniques and a laminar flow hood.
• Packages and labels all dosage forms used in the pharmacy using appropriate equipment.
• Documents medication orders and delivers patient medication orders to units.
• Maintains required prescription, medication, and department records.
• Reads physician-prescribed medication orders and selects medication from stock, counting the prescribed quantity.
• Places drugs in appropriate patient medication drawers/bins and presents filled orders to the pharmacist for review.
• Posts charges into the computer system from medication administration records and other charge documents.
• Adjusts patient profiles to reflect physician instructions to continue or discontinue medications.
• Operates computerized data systems to enter and retrieve information.
• Interprets and performs order entry functions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Receives, transports, and stores pharmacy-related items to and from pharmacy areas, hospital pharmacies, and nursing units.
• Assists in inventory control including ordering, stock rotation, and return of outdated medications.
• Maintains perpetual inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies in assigned dispensing areas and stores drugs appropriately.
• Replenishes medicine carts for nursing units; restocks nursing units and ancillary departments; checks for outdated, deteriorated, or contaminated drugs and proper storage conditions.
• Reviews drug usage records for unusual or high usage and orders supplies under proper conditions.
• Maintains a safe, orderly arrangement of pharmaceuticals and supplies in the pharmacy and nursing areas; cleans and maintains pharmacy-related equipment.
• Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding patient/family, department, and hospital information; adheres to HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies.
• Serves as an intermediary between patient care units and pharmacy; answers calls, accepts requests, collects and delivers medication orders, UD cassettes, and other items as assigned.
• Interacts and communicates in a customer-responsive and courteous manner, promoting patient/customer satisfaction and complying with iRESPECT standards.
• Works collaboratively with medical/hospital staff and patients to coordinate and implement activities.
• Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment to minimize risk to patients and staff by complying with safety, risk management, compliance/quality improvement, and infection control standards.
• Completes required continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements.
• Responds to problems/opportunities to improve the work environment and participates in unit-based performance improvement activities.
• Provides support to pharmacy and ancillary personnel to provide clinical assistance as needed.
• Assists in the orientation and supervision of students during their training.
• Provides coverage for relief and absences; demonstrates flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure continuous pharmacy coverage.
