General Summary/Responsibilities

Status: Full-Time / 80h per pay period. Department: Pharmacy. Shifts: varied. Facility: Miami Valley Hospital.

A Certified Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, engages in the following activities to the extent that the activities do not require the exercise of professional judgment:

  • Entering information into and retrieving information from a database or patient profile
  • Preparing and affixing labels
  • Stocking dangerous drugs and retrieving those drugs from inventory
  • Counting and pouring dangerous drugs into containers
  • Placing dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
  • Non-sterile drug compounding following the completion of site-specific training
  • Sterile drug compounding following the completion of a site-specific training
  • Stocking automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts

Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED
  • Preferred educational qualifications: Completion of an ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician education and training program

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a "Certified Pharmacy Technician" or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire

Experience

  • Minimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job-related work experience
  • Preferred experience: Prior hospital, long-term care or retail experience preferred

Knowledge/Skills

  • Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills
  • Able to read and write printed material in English
  • Proficiency with computer keyboard operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred
  • Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy
  • Must be familiar with pharmacy software
  • Possess ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as team member
  • Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
