About the role

The Pharmacy Technician Ill assists licensed pharmacists in the practice of pharmacy, performing duties as outlined in the Technician II position description. They also serve as a role model for other technicians through additional responsibilities, specialization in technician pharmacy practice, demonstrating leadership and initiative, and meeting the needs of the department.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the Pharmacy Department Technician Career Ladder development and ongoing revisions.
• Interact professionally and appropriately with other healthcare professionals and Rush system employees.
• Demonstrate ability to coach/train other technicians and pharmacy students.
• Demonstrate adaptability, initiative, and contribute to team success.
• Perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately, including fundamental math calculations, metric conversions, pharmaceutical dose calculations, and parenteral dose calculations.
• Accurately interpret EPIC pharmacy labels, understand medical abbreviations, and identify various types of medication orders.
• Filling and delivering patient-specific medications and ADC restocks, troubleshooting ADC equipment, utilizing technology in the pharmacy, and preparing non-sterile compounding and packaging.
• Answer phones, assist callers with missing medication requests, and perform other technical duties as assigned.
• Utilize Epic for technical requests, manage inventory, storage, and supply maintenance, and maintain cleanliness of all equipment and work areas.
• Maintain cleanliness of all equipment and work areas, and comply with departmental and Medical Center safety practices.
• Participate in various departmental committees and educational activities as assigned.
• Support and lead in fulfilling departmental staffing needs during short staffing situations.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician license.
• PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification or EXCPT (grandfathered).
• At least 6 months of previous experience as a pharmacy technician.
• Two years of college training or its equivalent.
• ACPE IV certification.
• Hazardous drug compounding certification.

Qualifications

• Ability to lift/move 30-50 pounds.
• Ability to stand for long periods (4+ hours) between breaks.
• Ability to crouch when filling dispensing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
• May be exposed to certain hazardous materials, including but not limited to chemotherapeutic agents.
• Up to 10% travel required.
• Consistent outstanding attendance record relating to tardiness and absences.
