Full time, non-exempt position with variable shifts less than 12 hours and 40 hours per week.

About the role

Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, you will assist in the non-judgmental aspects of preparing medications for dispensing and support clinical pharmacy operations. This role serves patients across all age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all essential duties and responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician I.
  • Qualify to check the work of other technicians when applicable (Tech-Check-Tech).
  • Manipulate and re-package hazardous and non-hazardous dosage forms following procedure.
  • Complete specialized training and demonstrate competency in hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding as assigned.
  • Demonstrate competency in at least one decentralized pharmacy space (e.g., OR, ED) in addition to basic central pharmacy operations or the assigned area.
  • For Specialty Technicians:
    • Serve as a liaison between physician clinic staff, specialty pharmacy, and other stakeholders to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships.
    • Identify opportunities for the Stormont Vail Specialty Pharmacy to partner with prescribers on new initiatives and service avenues.
    • Ensure accuracy of prescription and patient data entered into systems, verifying patient, drug, quantities, directions, days’ supply, supplies, insurance, and physician data.
    • Review medical documentation from physician offices and healthcare facilities, clarifying prescription orders with pharmacist or clinician as needed.
    • Work with payers to resolve insurance-related issues and assist patients with financial assistance.
  • Comply with HIPAA/HITECH regulations.
  • Adhere to all Stormont Vail Health policies, standards, mandatory training, and requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Completion of a vocational training program (preferred).
  • 1 year of experience as a pharmacy technician in any pharmacy practice setting (preferred).
  • National Technician Certification recognized by the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy (required).
  • Registration with the Kansas Board of Pharmacy (required).

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent customer service skills (required).
  • Knowledge of specialty disease states and medications (preferred).
  • Knowledge of pharmacy reimbursement and prior authorization (PA) process (preferred).
  • Medical and pharmaceutical knowledge (preferred).

The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and the ability to identify and distinguish colors is essential.

Working Conditions

  • Burn, chemical, dusts, electrical, explosive, extreme temperatures, mechanical, other atmospheric conditions, poor ventilation/fumes/gases, radiant energy, vibration, wet/humid: Rarely (less than 1 hour).
  • Combative patients, infectious diseases, needle stick, noise/sounds, risk of exposure to blood and body fluids, risk of exposure to hazardous drugs, hazards (other): Occasionally (1-3 hours).
