Pharmacy Specialist Investigational Drug Service - Research Care - Full Time Days - Detroit

About the Role

The Pharmacy Specialist is a pharmacist who, by virtue of specialized training and/or substantial experience, serves as the institutional expert in a major area of pharmacy practice. This role assumes leadership responsibility for directing pharmacy-related activities in their specialty by planning, developing, and implementing new and/or improved systems or services. The Specialist works independently, initiates cross-departmental discussions, and drives change to resolve problems. They also serve as a teacher, helping staff develop necessary skills, and contribute to applied research and the broader knowledge base in their specialty.

Responsibilities

• Maintains an active practice in their specialty area and serves as the institutional expert on related pharmacy practice issues.
• Plans, develops, and implements new, high-quality, cost-effective pharmacy programs and services in their specialty area.
• Provides direct oversight, support, and evaluation for 6th-year Doctor of Pharmacy students assigned to their area.
• Trains and directs pharmacy personnel in specialty functions and procedures.
• Identifies and resolves daily operational and/or clinical problems in their area, collaborating with other departments as needed.
• Designs and conducts applied research, contributing regularly to pharmacy and/or medical literature.
• Represents the department at internal and external meetings.

Requirements

• Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
• Completion of a residency training program or equivalent experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
• ASHP-approved PGY1 residency or equivalent hospital experience preferred.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of pharmacist experience or equivalent training and experience at another institution.
• Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed practice standards for a Level II pharmacist (Henry Ford Detroit Hospital only).
• Ability to serve as an institutional authority in a specialty practice area.
• Proven leadership abilities and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for disseminating information across all levels of healthcare personnel.
• Proven research/publication record.
• Qualified to work with pharmacy students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• History of reliability, dependability, and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan. If eligible, licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
