Part-time, 0.50 FTE position with a schedule of Monday, Tuesday (8 hours), and Wednesday morning (4 hours). Hours may vary during training.
About the Role
Supports the Ambulatory Pharmacy Department by coordinating activities between scheduling, insurance verification, and pre-certification for pharmacy service visits. Ensures the efficient operation of the department by completing assigned support activities.
Responsibilities
- Pre-registers/registers patients with accurate demographic and financial data.
- Handles incoming phone calls related to scheduling and coordination of patients and resources.
- Collects and evaluates patient demographic, insurance, clinical, and non-clinical information.
- Collects balances, co-payments, co-insurance, or other payments over the phone.
- Verifies insurance coverage and ensures all requirements are met, including obtaining prior authorization and/or referrals.
- Responds to customer inquiries about ambulatory pharmacy services.
- Manages daily ambulatory pharmacy service appointment schedules.
- Identifies inaccuracies and missing data affecting financial results; monitors cancellations and rescheduling to manage schedules and resolve resource conflicts.
- Obtains required paperwork and ensures orders, history, physical, and consents are complete.
- Performs other duties as assigned related to ambulatory pharmacy services.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (required).
- Minimum of 1 year of medical office or related customer service experience (preferred).
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook (preferred).
- Experience with ambulatory pharmacy services (preferred).
Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and CPT/ICD-10 coding (preferred).
- Ability to work efficiently in an environment with multiple demands, interruptions, and time constraints with minimal supervision (required).
- Advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking skills (required).
- Knowledge of insurance processes and regulations (preferred).
- Ability to manage conflict effectively and professionally (required).
- Excellent time management skills, with an emphasis on meeting time-sensitive deadlines (required).
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills (required).
Working Conditions
- Consistently operates computer and other office equipment.
- Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
- Sedentary work, predominantly in an office environment.
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Close visual acuity required for activities such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $21.59 – $32.39 per hour. The hiring rate depends on education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, and other factors.
