About the Role

Provides pharmacy consulting services to customers regarding the effective usage of medications, awareness of drug interactions, and offering preventive healthcare services such as immunizations. Responsible for ensuring the proper compounding, dispensation, review, and verification of prescribed medications within regulatory guidelines, company policies, and procedures. Supports the efficient workflow of the pharmacy and assists the pharmacy manager in optimizing pharmacy financials, inventory management, and enhancing customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Experience
    • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
    • Resolves customer issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
    • Models and shares customer service best practices, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
    • Develops strong relationships with most valuable customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services.
    • Supports efforts to enhance customer experience by increasing focus on healthcare services (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, flu shots, and diabetes awareness).
  • Operations
    • Counsels patients on medication usage, side effects, interactions, contraindications, patient privacy, generics, cost-effective alternatives, and over-the-counter products; refers to medical providers as needed.
    • Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
    • Reviews, interprets, and accurately dispenses prescribed medications.
    • Ensures pharmacy operations comply with regulations, company policies, and standards.
    • Assists the pharmacy manager in establishing procedures to promote efficient workflow, including assigning roles, coordinating activities, and soliciting employee suggestions.
    • Responsible for opening, closing, and shift change duties in the pharmacy.
    • Ensures compliance with all elements of the Good Faith Dispensing policy and state/federal controlled substance laws when filling prescriptions.
    • Maintains current knowledge of pharmacy systems (e.g., Intercom Plus, registers, automation, StoreNET) and proposes enhancements to improve productivity.
    • Processes insurance claims accurately, resolves customer issues, and prevents payment rejections; follows up with insurance companies and medical providers.
    • Clarifies prescribed medications, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies with medical providers to suggest alternatives and answer questions.
    • Performs retail, clinical, and wellness services such as immunizations, flu shots, and diabetes awareness.
    • Assists the pharmacy manager in analyzing performance data, including pharmacy financials, customer service, and inventory management; reviews KPIs with relevant stakeholders.
    • Develops and maintains relationships with the local medical community, including physicians and nurses.
    • Participates in community outreach activities to promote pharmacy business and growth opportunities.
    • Partners with Central Pharmacy Operations for customer registration, third-party reviews, and resolving customer issues.
    • In virtual environments, conducts virtual product reviews following company procedures and guidelines.
  • People & Performance Management
    • Assists the Pharmacy Manager with staff hiring and training.
    • Reinforces the Pharmacy Manager’s direction in staff performance through coaching, constructive feedback, and monitoring customer service.
    • Promotes teamwork by establishing expectations, recognizing progress, and fostering a shared vision.
  • Training & Personal Development
    • Maintains current knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare through journals, company publications, and communications.
    • Stays aware of developments in retail and management, pursuing best practices to enhance performance.
    • Obtains necessary certifications, education credits, and training (e.g., People Plus Learning modules).
    • Seeks professional development by monitoring performance and soliciting feedback.
  • Communications
    • Supports the Pharmacy Manager and Store Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff.

Requirements

  • Willingness to obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited educational institution prior to the start date.
  • Willingness to obtain pharmacist licensure from the respective Board of Pharmacy in the states within the district within 90 days of hire.
  • Certified Immunizer or willingness to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.

Pay

Hourly salary range: $33.50 - $45.30 per hour. The actual hourly salary offered will depend on factors including geography, skills, abilities, education, experience, and other relevant factors.
