About the role

The Pharmacy Intern, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensures patients receive the correct medication; packages and labels medication doses; fills routine orders for stock supplies to patient care areas; assists in all aspects of IV admixture preparation and delivery; and performs any tasks appointed by a pharmacist. He/She complies with the standards, ethics, laws, and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy, including the MS Board of Pharmacy and accrediting agency.

Schedule

Shift: PRN | Hours will vary from 7:00am to 6:59pm | Days, Evening, Nights, Weekends

Responsibilities

  • Ensure patients receive the correct medication
  • Package and label medication doses
  • Fill routine orders for stock supplies to patient care areas
  • Assist in all aspects of IV admixture preparation and delivery
  • Perform any tasks appointed by a pharmacist
  • Comply with standards, ethics, laws, and regulations governing pharmacy practice

Requirements

  • Attending a School of Pharmacy accredited by or pending accreditation by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education
  • Current license/permit as Student-Controlled Substance Registration by the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy
  • Pharmacy Technician experience preferred

Physical Demands

  • Moderately active work: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, facility, or travel to another facility within the SRHS service area
  • Exerting negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Using many physical motions in daily work activities
  • Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease
  • Repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment
  • Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction
  • Close visual acuity and ability to adjust focus, e.g., shift gaze from a computer monitor to forms/printed material
  • Ability to be active for extended periods without undue fatigue
  • Ability to work assigned schedules with the understanding that changes may be made according to hospital needs
