Job Description

Job Title: Pharmacy Fulfillment Certified Pharmacy Technician
Department: Pharmacy Fulfillment Center
FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function: Works in a fast-paced production environment known as an automated Central Fill Pharmacy. Assist pharmacists in the accurate preparation and distribution of prescription medications.

Reporting Relations: Accountable and Reports to: AVP, Pharmacy Services; FC Pharmacy Manager; Pharmacist; Lead Technicians

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures and facility policies
  • Handles inquiries that do not require a pharmacist’s expertise and judgment
  • Aids in developing standard operating procedures
  • Prepares and affixes labels to prescription containers
  • Aids in training employees
  • Aids in adherence to quality assurance standards
  • Gain complete understanding of Hy-Vee’s retail pharmacy operations and, offering avenues to better serve them
  • Orders, checks-in, and stocks pharmacy supplies
  • Maintains cleanliness of pharmacy and dispensing area
  • Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
  • Reports any medication errors to appropriate personnel
  • Orders pharmacy supplies

Secondary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assists in areas as needed
  • Performs other related job duties and special projects as required

Education And Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified as a licensed technician through a certified national program and maintains continuing education requirements to keep license active
  • Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk is preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near and far range with or without correction, field of vision, and color vision
  • Must be able to physically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, reaching, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions

  • Strong leadership skills; ability to assist other members of the department
  • Ability to do logical or scientific thinking to solve problems; several abstract and concrete variables

  • Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving arithmetic, algebraic and geometric calculations
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, assisting in the preparation of accurate prescriptions
  • Ability to compose original correspondence; follow technical manuals; have increased contact with people; interview counsel or advise people; evaluate technical data

Working Conditions

This position frequently involves a fast work pace in a production setting. Must be able to handle multiple tasks on a daily basis.

Equipment Used to Perform Job

  • High volume solutions robotics, operating software, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Contacts

  • Has daily contact with employees, suppliers, and delivery drivers
  • Has occasional contact with Hy-Vee stores, trade/professional organizations and federal/state governmental or regulatory agencies

Maintains the confidentiality of the customer’s private medical information according to the HIPAA act.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre employment drug screen.
