About the Role
This is a staff pharmacist position responsible for supervising pharmacy technicians in retail operations and supporting all aspects of RVH Pharmacy retail and HR PBM relations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily activities of pharmacy technicians and guide their work.
- Interpret physicians’ orders and compound and dispense medications in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
- Provide drug information to healthcare professionals and monitor drug therapy to prevent interactions or potential problems.
- Coordinate staffing and scheduling with the Manager Pharmacist, filling in for shifts as business needs dictate.
- Support complete retail pharmacy operations, including HR PBM relations, education, and service excellence.
- Administer vaccines when appropriate.
- Delegate tasks to pharmacy technicians within legally accepted guidelines.
- Comply with all applicable policies and procedures, including departmental and functional requirements.
- Check the appropriateness of medication orders based on patient age and clinical status.
- Demonstrate accountability and initiative in handling operational and clinical volume changes.
- Assist in procuring, maintaining, and storing an adequate inventory of medications, including controlled substances.
- Maintain required state and federal records for controlled substances.
- Coordinate with medical and healthcare professionals to promote a team-based approach to patient care.
- Initiate and communicate effectively regarding medication orders, special instructions, and monitoring as needed.
- Monitor drug interactions and participate in performance improvement activities.
- Maintain current licensure as regulated by the Indiana State Board of Pharmacy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Pharmacy degree from an accredited university, as required by law.
- Experience in retail pharmacy (five or more years preferred).
- Pharmacist license eligible to practice in the state of Indiana.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire.
Qualifications
- Preferred: PhD or equivalent in Pharmacy.
- Preferred: Five or more years of retail pharmacy experience.
