Job Summary

The Pharmacist at Kindred Hospital Louisville works collaboratively with the Director of Pharmacy to compound and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies. They participate in performance improvement plans, advise administration and staff on quality, regulatory, and risk issues, and support all clinical and medical staff.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain and disseminate drug information through in-service education and consultations.
  • Assist other Pharmacists and Technicians in routine duties.
  • Direct activities and provide professional and technical guidance to Pharmacy personnel.
  • Impart therapeutic and drug information to patients and health professionals.
  • Ensure appropriate and safe drug therapy for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Enter a minimum of 40 orders per four-hour shift.
  • Generate required reports and perform backup procedures correctly.
  • Assist Technicians in performing technical tasks.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques and recycle product as appropriate.
  • Check technician-prepared products before release.
  • Ensure Technician maintains I.V. refrigerator temperature and hood cleaning logs.
  • Fill orders with correct medications and prioritize work based on importance.
  • Review patient profiles to ensure appropriate and safe drug therapy.
  • Monitor patient appropriateness for formulations and clarify controversial orders with physicians.
  • Keep current on new drugs and add additives in the proper sequence.
  • Label containers accurately and complete packages including seals and protective wraps.
  • Inform staff of pending problems and maintain security of the Pharmacy and controlled substances.
  • Prepare unit of use dosages when possible and return completed packages.
  • Keep Director informed of workload status and prioritize tasks.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharmacist degree.
  • Current state license in good standing.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) months of experience in pharmacy.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, JCAHO, HCFA, and state guidelines.
  • Experience in facilitating teams and writing policies and procedures.
