About the Role

Kindred Hospital Las Vegas – Flamingo and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is a 78-bed hospital with 66 long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) beds and 12 private ARU rooms. The hospital provides extended recovery care, 24-hour clinical support, and partners with physicians to serve adult and geriatric patients (ages 18 and older). The facility is located less than 4 miles east of I-15 off Flamingo Road, within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

The Pharmacist collaborates with the Director of Pharmacy to compound and dispense medications, support hospital performance improvement plans, and consult on quality, regulatory, and risk issues. This role serves as a resource for clinical and medical staff, assists in coordinating pharmacy activities, and supervises technical support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the maintenance and dissemination of drug information through in-service education, patient consultations, and staff support.
  • Direct and provide guidance to pharmacy personnel, including pharmacists and technicians.
  • Exercise professional judgment in providing therapeutic and drug information to patients and health professionals.
  • Enter a minimum of 40 orders per four-hour shift and generate required reports (e.g., Pick I.V., Production reports).
  • Perform backup procedures, assist technicians with technical tasks, and maintain aseptic techniques.
  • Check technician-prepared products, ensure proper I.V. refrigerator temperature and hood cleaning logs, and verify medication accuracy before release.
  • Prioritize work to prepare STAT, Now, and Waiting orders in order of importance.
  • Review patient profiles to ensure safe and appropriate drug therapy, preventing therapeutic duplication, drug interactions, and adverse drug reactions (ADRs).
  • Ensure medication orders are appropriate for patient height, weight, age, renal function, and disease state.
  • Provide pharmacokinetic dosing services, interpret levels, modify doses, and document progress notes per protocol.
  • Calculate fluid, electrolyte, and calorie needs; monitor formulation appropriateness; and clarify orders with physicians.
  • Stay current on new drugs, prepare unit-of-use dosages, and maintain accurate labeling, including auxiliary labels.
  • Maintain pharmacy and controlled substance security, inform staff of pending issues, and keep the Director informed of workload status.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharmacist degree.
  • Current state license in good standing and BCLS certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) months of pharmacy experience.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, JCAHO, HCFA, and state guidelines.
  • Experience facilitating teams and writing policies and procedures.

Skills

  • Basic understanding of computer systems for processing prescription orders and minimal word processing skills.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Good and regular attendance.

Pay

$60.00 - $76.09 per hour.
