Responsibilities
- Prepares and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies to inpatients and outpatients of all ages upon receiving medication orders from providers.
- Supplies medication information and other clinical services to patients and other health care providers.
- Reviews, interprets, clarifies and processes all medication orders to ensure safety for patients of all ages using patient profiles and available clinical data.
- Makes sure a safe and appropriate medication use process is maintained through reporting and communication with other health care providers.
- Maintains a safe and appropriate medication use process through reporting and communication with other health care providers.
- Maintains professional performance and behavior. Positively contributes to patient and employee satisfaction.
- Participates in the efficient and economical use of medications, supplies, and resources.
- Promotes rational and economic medication use.
- Performs monthly unit inspections and consults with and advises nursing staff on proper storage and handling of medications including code carts, floor stock, and controlled substances as assigned.
- Provides medication information and educational programs to patients and health care staff, and participates on committees/teams as requested.
- Maintains professional performance and behavior. Positively contributes to patient and employee satisfaction.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Provides immediate, direct supervision, as defined by pharmacy leadership, to unlicensed pharmacy students and interns.

- Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Requirements
- Pharm.D. or B.S. Degree required.
- Residency or hospital experience (3-5 years) preferred.
- Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Alabama.
- Licenses eligible pharmacists (ie Pharmacist Graduate Externs or Pharmacists licensed in other states) are acceptable provided they take and pass the pharmacist licensing exams required by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy within 3 months of employment.
Qualifications
- Must be able to operate computer, calculator, telephone, and other pharmaceutical equipment.
- Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

- Working knowledge of all State and Federal laws and regulations affecting the practice of pharmacy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
