About the role

The Pharmacist ensures accurate and timely dispensing of medications and other pharmaceutical supplies according to established procedures and standards, in support of high-quality patient care. The Pharmacist interprets, evaluates, and verifies medications and dispenses drugs and pharmaceutical supplies to fill written and e-prescriptions. The Pharmacist provides drug information to clinicians and patients.

Responsibilities

  • Review and verify medication orders.
  • Prepare, compound, and dispense sterile hazardous and non-hazardous medications in accordance with USP, USP, and all applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records on all prescriptions filled and controlled drug substances as required by law.
  • Properly manage pharmaceutical inventories and maintain adequate pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Provide patient counseling and medication therapy monitoring.
  • Direct and verify the Pharmacy Technician’s work.
  • Support organizational goals and values by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork, respect, and cooperation.
  • Actively pursue opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Work Environment

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Requires the ability to stand approximately 60% of the time and occasional reaching.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to department leadership and supervises incumbents as assigned.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree.
  • Current New Jersey State license as a Registered Pharmacist required.
  • ACLS Preferred, CPR Preferred for Hospital Pharmacist.
  • Two years of experience preferred. Two years of hospital experience preferred for Hospital Pharmacist.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of work processes.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and skill will be assessed and evaluated within 90 days from date of hire.
