Pharmacist Intern

Responsibilities

• Train to work in various pharmacies at ANMC, including Outpatient, Inpatient, Healthy Communities Building (HCB), Mediset, and Discharge/Transitions of Care.
• Provide patient counseling, drug information, drug therapy consultation, and staff education.
• Review patient profile and clinical status, labs, dosing intervals, and drug therapy combinations to assure safe and effective medication use.
• Consult with healthcare providers on therapy recommendations as appropriate.
• Conduct medication dispensing, compounding, order entry, and verification of all pharmaceutical activities.
• Repackage and distribute prescriptions; perform compounding of IV, topical, and oral medications in an accurate and timely manner.
• Document patient and procedural information.
• Follows proper billing procedures.
• Restock bays and all other work areas with medications.
• Perform inventory checks with inventory pharmacy technicians.
• Answer phone calls and provide backup front desk customer service.
• Contribute to department process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• ACPE-accredited pharmacy school program OR proof of passing the FPGEE (Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination).
• Possess a current State of Alaska Intern Pharmacist License at start date of hire.
