About the role

Responsible for dispensing/compounding of prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care, according to professional standards and State and Federal legal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews prescriptions issued by physician, or other authorized prescriber; assures accuracy and determines formulas and ingredients needed.
  • Directs pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Enters data, such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory.
  • May assay medications to determine identity, purity, and strength.
  • May instruct interns and other medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy or teach in college of pharmacy.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with PharmD required.
  • Current active registration and licensure with the State of New Jersey Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience (2+ years) preferred.

  • Experience: Previous hospital pharmacy experience (2+ years) preferred.

Skills

  • Knowledge of professional standards and State and Federal legal requirements for pharmacy practice.
  • Ability to review and interpret prescriptions accurately.
  • Proficiency in maintaining pharmacy files and inventory.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with pharmacy customers and medical personnel.
