About the role

The Pharmacist, Clinical Operations will perform telephonic consultations with patients regarding the use of their specialty medication and management of their disease state. They will perform medication reconciliation, screen for potential drug interactions, and provide side effect management recommendations. Another main duty includes a high volume of product verification to ensure accuracy of orders prior to shipment. The role involves interpreting prescribers’ prescriptions, contacting prescribers and/or patients to verify prescription information, and expediting order processing. The individual will meet department production metrics, support quality standards, resolve patient issues, and vary work priorities to accommodate business needs while working independently with minimal guidance.

Responsibilities

• Verify prescriptions for pharmaceutical preparations and devices; maintain accurate records of all prescription transactions and submit claims for third-party reimbursement.
• Consult with physicians and nurses regarding pharmaceutical questions; advise on formulary medications and cost-effective therapies.
• Answer pharmaceutical questions from patients and staff; monitor storage, distribution, and use of pharmaceuticals.
• Provide clear, detailed clinical documentation of patient consultations and interventions in compliance with internal policies and external regulatory bodies (e.g., URAC).
• Provide oversight and quality assurance to pharmacy technicians.
• Interpret and clinically evaluate prescriptions for specialty medications; contact providers and/or patients to verify prescription details such as drug strength, directions, and diagnosis.
• Verify and confirm validity of controlled substances; contact providers for new prescriptions, consult on clinical questions, and facilitate prescription transfers.
• Work with providers to convert prescriptions to generic, biosimilar, or preferred drugs when possible.
• Verify prescription information entered in the system; answer clinical questions from the pharmacy team.
• Adapt to new workflows and processes; solve unique pharmaceutical problems; stay current with advancements in specialty pharmacy therapies.
• Provide patient education through telephonic consultations focusing on disease state management, side effect mitigation, medication administration, storage, and therapeutic appropriateness.
• Answer clinical questions from patients and caregivers.
• Document and report medication errors in accordance with company policies and manufacturer contracts; facilitate error reduction and prevention.
• Adhere to all Lumicera pharmacovigilance standards.
• Contribute to the quality management program through daily operations and efforts toward sustaining key pharmacy performance metrics.
• Participate in quality improvement activities by sharing or implementing improvement ideas.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of ACPE Accreditation School of Pharmacy with a B.S. Pharmacy or PharmD degree.
• Current, unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state where any on-site pharmacy work will be conducted; must maintain active licensure through continuing education credits.
• At least 2 years of experience as a practicing licensed Pharmacist preferred.
• Specialty pharmacy experience or solid understanding of specialty pharmacy drugs, including REMS and Limited Distribution Products best practices preferred.
• Ability to consistently interact cooperatively and respectfully with other employees.
• Participate in, adhere to, and support compliance program objectives.

Pay

USD $101,335.35 - USD $126,669.19 per year.

STAR Bonus: 7.50% (At Risk Maximum).

Schedule

8-hour shift varying between 7am to 7pm, Monday through Friday.

Location: Madison, WI (310 Integrity Drive, 53717).
