Pharmacist

About the role

This position serves as a clinical pharmacist providing direct pharmaceutical care for patients within the Indian Health Service. The position is expected to manage selected patients with chronic disease states and provide pharmaceutical care for acute patients.

Responsibilities

• Helps interpret and dispense prescribed products, ensuring proper protection of prescribed products to the patient.
• Provides specialized services to assist patients with managing conditions such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, and other chronic illnesses.
• Offers information and advice about drug therapy, drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
• Maintains records such as pharmacy files, patient records, inventories, and control records for narcotics or controlled drugs.
• Compounds and dispenses medications as prescribed by physicians, dentists, and other licensed practitioners.
• Serves as a pharmacy consultant and advisor to committees such as the therapeutic agents committee, hospital research committee, and infection control committee.

Requirements

• Must have a doctoral degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
• Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
• Must be able to distinguish basic colors.
• Experience in dispensing medications, conducting outpatient pharmacy clinics, evaluating medication regimens, and maintaining medication records.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent doctoral degree.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, performing duties such as conducting outpatient pharmacy clinics, taking health histories, adjusting treatment plans, and monitoring patient outcomes.
