About the Role
The University of Rochester is seeking a Pharmacist to approve medication orders, oversee compounding and dispensing, and supervise pharmacy technicians in accordance with state and federal regulations. This role involves clinical practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring accurate, timely medication distribution.
Responsibilities
- Approve and oversee the ordering, compounding, preparation, and dispensing of medications in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Dispense medications accurately and resolve problematic medication orders in a timely manner.
- Process and validate medication orders using current information systems to maintain accurate patient profiles.
- Direct and supervise pharmacy technicians to ensure appropriate workflow.
- Check all products requiring pharmacist approval prior to dispensing.
- Participate in departmental quality assurance processes, including reporting and following up on medication incidents, adverse events, and errors.
- Develop or participate in clinical practice by collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to guide appropriate medication use.
- Participate in focused clinical initiatives, Medication Use Evaluations, and monitor assigned patient populations for clinical progress.
- Recommend adjustments to therapy based on renal/hepatic function, culture results, and laboratory tests.
- Document clinical activities and interventions regularly.
- Educate Pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals, and perform patient teaching as necessary.
- Resolve patient care problems proactively and communicate progress clearly to staff.
- Perform duties of "charge pharmacist" when scheduled, including coordination of shift resources, conflict resolution, and shift-to-shift communication.
- Escalate issues to supervisors when solutions exceed expertise or authority.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required; PharmD preferred.
- 1 year of relevant acute care pharmacy experience or successful completion of an accredited pharmacy practice residency.
- Licensed Pharmacist upon hire (PHARMD).
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Pay
Compensation range: $121,201.00 - $163,612.00 annually. Individual salaries will be determined based on factors such as market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise, and internal equity considerations.
Schedule
- Full-time, regular position.
