Location: Nashville, TN – Department of Health, Davidson County. This is a hybrid (in-office and remote) position. A criminal background check may be required.

About the Role

This position is in the Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) Program within the Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP) division of the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH). The role is currently funded year-to-year through CDC cooperative agreements (grants). Some travel is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead, promote, and support antimicrobial stewardship efforts in healthcare facilities across Tennessee (e.g., acute care hospitals, nursing homes).
• Participate in analysis and interpretation of National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) annual survey on core elements of antimicrobial stewardship in Tennessee facilities.
• Lead, promote, and support antimicrobial stewardship efforts in the community, targeting retail pharmacists, provider groups (e.g., pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists), and schools of pharmacy.
• Provide technical support to facilities reporting antimicrobial use and resistance data to the NHSN Antimicrobial Use and Resistance (AUR) module, including assistance in validating data.
• Monitor collection, data quality, and analysis of antimicrobial use and resistance data reported to the NHSN AUR module.
• Participate in data collection, entry, cleaning, analysis, and interpretation for antimicrobial stewardship projects.
• Guide the analysis and interpretation of outpatient antimicrobial use data to prioritize interventions (e.g., specific providers, provider groups, or geographic locations) within Tennessee.
• Lead the Antimicrobial Stewardship subcommittee of the multidisciplinary advisory group on HAI and Antimicrobial Resistance.
• Host regular Antimicrobial Stewardship calls with staff from across the state.
• Collaborate with external partners on antimicrobial stewardship activities.
• Prepare and deliver presentations on antimicrobial stewardship to local, state, and national partners.
• Participate in outbreak investigations as needed, especially if medications are implicated (e.g., contamination) or injectable drug diversion is suspected.
• Assist in preparing grant applications, progress reports, scientific articles, presentations, and other deliverables.
• Perform programmatic project management activities related to antimicrobial stewardship projects.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Science and two years of full-time responsible work as a pharmacist.
• Completion of one year of residency may substitute for one year of experience.
• Licensed as a Pharmacist in the State of Tennessee.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past five years (no DUI, reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than four moving violations).

Pay

Monthly: $9,858.00 – $15,831.00
Annual: $118,296.00 – $189,972.00
