About the role

This position is responsible for direct supervision of the Patient Financial Services staff, greeting patients as needed, communication with clinical departments, customer service, and providing the office with pertinent information, supplies, and ordering as needed. The PFS Technical Coordinator actively participates in the quality improvement of the department, provides training for new staff, evaluates staff productivity and performance, and performs and directs other duties necessary for the daily operation of the Patient Financial Services Department. Provides supervision and support for the Department under the direction and oversight of a Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews and makes hiring recommendations for candidates for employment.
  • Coordinates and provides training and orientation of new staff.
  • Acts as expert resource and independently resolves unique, one-of-a-kind, complex issues.
  • Collaborates and shares knowledge with team members.
  • Monitors workload assignments and assists with the maintenance of staff education records.
  • Monitors supplies cost and usage and reports to department manager as necessary.
  • Assists in department QA/QC/QI projects as directed.
  • Writes and maintains PFS Department procedure manuals and competency documentation.
  • Maintains efficient workflow and staff work schedules.
  • Maintains positive inter-personal collegial work relationships.
  • Maintains effective relationships with key personnel at payers, vendors, and VMC Departments.
  • Recommends hiring, termination, promotion, and corrective action decisions.
  • Develops and presents staff 90-day and annual performance evaluations.
  • Provides input on operating and capital budgets.
  • Participates and facilitates staff meetings as required.
  • Researches and resolves customer complaints.
  • Attends internal and external leadership and education meetings.
  • Participates in internal operations meetings as directed by Manager or Director.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all protected health information.
  • Demonstrates awareness of the importance of cost containment for the Department.
  • Provides suggestions regarding process or quality improvement opportunities.
  • Ensures compliance with VMC, governmental, and payer regulations and rules.
  • Provides coverage during short staffing due to illness or severe weather to maintain skill levels and ensure work completion.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Director.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or B.A./B.S. degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a hospital Patient Financial Services (PFS) department.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a lead or supervisor preferred.
  • Microsoft Office software and patient accounting system competency.
  • Proven leadership ability and experience, including the ability to motivate team members and develop and achieve performance goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language.

Pay

Salary range: $29.99 – $43.48/hour, DOE.
