About the role

The Patient Financial Services Rep position at Banner Health in Sterling, Colorado is a full-time role with occasional Saturday morning shifts. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth patient flow by handling phone calls, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and managing patient liabilities.

Responsibilities

• Answer phones and schedule patient appointments
• Provide registration of patient and insurance information
• Obtain necessary signatures and generate population health summaries
• Verify insurance eligibility benefits for services rendered with payors
• Calculate and collect patient liability according to verification of insurance benefits and expected reimbursement
• Explain and provide financial policies and available resources for alternative payment arrangements to patients and their families
• Enter payments/charges for services rendered and perform daily payment/charge reconciliation
• Balance cash drawer at the beginning and end of the day and prepare daily bank deposit
• Schedule office visits and procedures within the medical practice(s) and external practices as necessary
• Maximize reimbursement by scheduling patients in accordance with payor plan provisions
• Confirm patient appointments for the following day as necessary and ensure patients are properly prepared for visits
• Communicate with internal and external customers, care team, management, centralized services, and HIMS
• Assist in responding to requests for patient medical records according to company policies and procedures, and state and federal laws
• Perform a variety of patient services to assist in patient flow including escorting patients, taking vitals and patient history, assisting in patient treatment, distributing mail and fax information, ordering supplies, etc.

Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and working knowledge of patient financial services, financial, collecting services, or insurance industry experience processes. It also requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and to work independently, as well as strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Skills

The ideal candidate should demonstrate proactive interpersonal communications skills, effective customer service/communication skills, and the ability to prioritize work and ensure appropriateness and timeliness of each patient's care. They should also have the ability to retain large amounts of changing payor information/knowledge crucial to attaining reimbursement for the services provided.

Pay
