PET/CT Technologist - PET Imaging - Per Diem 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Union)

About the role

The PET/CT Technologist plays a crucial role in the Imaging Services Team, supporting radiologists in performing high-quality radionuclide imaging, Computerized Tomography (CT), and lab procedures. This position involves organizing, planning, and directing activities related to patients and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate knowledge of physics, scanning techniques, and computer science related to nuclear scanning and CT.
• Ensure complete working knowledge of PET equipment, CT, and computer software necessary for study performance.
• Directly responsible for safe and efficient ordering, handling, preparation, administration, and documentation of radioactive isotopes.
• Perform, compute, and calculate test results using appropriate tools to produce specific statistical information.
• Inspect, check, troubleshoot, and notify for service regarding equipment issues.
• Plan and execute procedures considering physiologic and developmental age.
• Select appropriate equipment and apply immobilization devices as required.
• Confirm patient identification using hospital identifiers (name and date of birth).
• Review patient questionnaires, doctor's orders, and requisitions for physician notes and special instructions, and discuss with radiologist and patient if necessary.
• Recognize and respond to emergency situations, indicating codes and providing aid as needed.
• Promote sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination.
• Record pertinent patient information and complete paperwork as required, assisting in file maintenance.
• Administer report and isotope documentation according to local, state, and federal regulations and radiation safety officer recommendations.
• Prepare examinations for interpretation by radiologists.
• Maintain PET/CT rooms and work areas in a neat, orderly, and prepared condition, ensuring exam rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies.
• Willingly perform other related duties as assigned or required, including scheduling, quality control follow-up, transport, and clerical tasks.
• Participate in after-hours uncontrolled standby and call-back.
• Assist with ordering and stocking of department supplies and equipment.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Satisfactory completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CA DPH) or ARRT (RT (N))) or an accredited Radiography Training Program (Diagnostic Radiologic Technology (CA) or Radiography (ARRT) (RT (R))) and certification as a PET/CT Technologist (NMTCB or ARRT (PET)).
• Ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
• Able to function independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and Computerized Tomography.

Licenses/Certifications

• PET/CT Technologist.
• Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CA DPH) or ARRT (RT (N)).
• Diagnostic Radiologic Technology (CA) or Radiography (ARRT) (RT (R)).
• PET Technologist (NMTCB) (PET).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City).
