About the Role
Equinox is the industry leader in Personal Training, with over 25 years of growth and a commitment to unparalleled careers. The Personal Training Manager (PTM) drives operational excellence at the club level, fostering a high-performance team culture. PTMs are goal-oriented, results-driven, and passionate about developing talent while interacting with members.
Responsibilities
- Model “Servant Leadership” in interactions with trainers, staff, and members.
- Establish and maintain service standards for trainer interactions with members and staff.
- Monitor business trends (new clients, conversions, attrition, training frequency) to meet department goals.
- Implement operational SOPs, including administrative duties for client outreach and staff accountability.
- Lead a monthly trainers’ forum to align and motivate the team.
- Conduct monthly Professional Development Meetings (PDMs) to support trainers’ financial, career, and education goals.
- Provide direct, actionable feedback to Fitness Managers (FM) and trainers with clear improvement timelines.
- Collaborate with all club departments to ensure seamless communication and support.
- Lead sales training for new hires and those needing additional support.
- Conduct business management workshops tailored to each trainer’s Tier level.
- Develop and mentor the FM to execute responsibilities flawlessly and prepare for promotion.
- Identify and promote key talent to Managers in Training (MIT), Tier X, and Master Instructors.
- Foster team commitment to continued education (internal and external) to maintain high standards.
- Manage team headcount by actively participating in the interview process and generating trainer referrals.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to hire, direct, and develop staff with structured accountability.
- Outgoing, collaborative social skills with a strong desire to engage members, clients, and staff.
- Proven sales skills, particularly in client acquisition and retention.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time management and prioritization abilities.
- Consistently positive feedback from colleagues, direct reports, and supervisors.
- Proven revenue-driving ability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum one year of leadership experience in education, fitness, or management.
- Degree in Exercise Science or Sports Management (preferred).
- Current national certification, CPR/AED, and First Aid.
- Strong instructional abilities, including curriculum leadership and learning strategies.
- Enthusiasm, passion, and deep knowledge of the fitness industry.
