About the role
This position provides coverage in short-term, surge, and on-demand situations resulting from military needs, such as post-deployment events or to cover absences of existing counselors. The role involves delivering personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at military installations.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one financial counseling, consultations, briefings, presentations, and referrals to service members and their families.
- Work closely with installation and military branch Points of Contact (POC) to ensure the program meets installation needs.
- Assist service members in establishing spending plans for extended absences.
- Develop and distribute informational financial materials.
- Coordinate, publicize, and deliver Personal Financial Management classes/workshops on topics such as pre- and post-deployment, first duty station arrival, and career events.
- Respond to requests for age-appropriate financial classes or seminars.
- Utilize virtual counseling or electronic communication modes (e.g., web-based, secure online chat, video-based communications, or secure video teleconference) as authorized.
- Manage duty-to-warn situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol.
- Communicate with leadership and participate in supervision, sharing trends and issues from assigned installations.
- Participate in training, quality improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required. Alternatives: Associate degree plus 4 years of relevant experience, or high school diploma plus 6 years of relevant experience.
- 3+ years of financial counseling experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and fluent in English. Bilingual in English and Spanish may be required by contract.
- Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
- Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
- Must hold one of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
- Valid driver’s license.
Pay
Salary range: $58,440 – $93,500. Actual pay will be adjusted based on skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position may also be eligible for short-term incentives.
