Personal Care Attendant - Full Time

About the role

This is an opportunity for a mission-driven team player who is passionate about attending to the daily living and safety needs of an assigned group of participants in our PACE center and occasionally in the home. By performing various participant care activities and related non-professional services, you will ensure our participants’ physical, social, and recreational needs are met so that they have the best experience possible when they are in our Habitat Health Center.

Responsibilities

• Constructively seek and share feedback and help implement changes to improve clinical outcomes and experience for participants.

• Meet participants’ personal hygiene and basic needs in a timely and caring manner.
• Assist participants with activities of daily living, such as feeding, ambulation, and other activities.
• Respond to and fulfill participant requests or obtain appropriate assistance.
• Perform and assist with assigned non-sterile procedures and other tasks in support of participant care.
• Prepare and plate food for meal service, following instructions on participants’ dietary cards for specific diets, preferences, and special needs.
• Ensure the participant is comfortable, necessary supplies are available and within reach, and physical privacy is maintained.
• Maintain clinical and age-specific competencies as defined for the assigned role.
• Collect data and record activity and participant care information on appropriate forms, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Provide participant instruction related to safety factors conducive to their care plan and recovery; demonstrate appropriate health, safety, and aseptic practices.
• Clean and straighten immediate participant surroundings, ensuring comfort and privacy.
• Assist in maintaining an orderly, clean participant care unit by straightening supply and linen storage, nursing station, and equipment area.
• On occasion, provide homemaking services in the home, including preparing and serving meals and snacks according to specified nutritional needs and dietary restrictions, and performing light housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, dusting, taking out trash, washing dishes, and doing laundry.
• On occasion, accompany participants for outside appointments.
• Observe participants for emotional, behavioral, and physical changes in condition, including mood, skin integrity, bowel and bladder status, food/fluid intake, speech, ambulation, and transfer ability, and promptly report changes to nursing or group home staff.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Completion of accredited vocational nursing assistant course, hospital, or comparable participant care experience. “Comparable experience” should include skills such as: TPR, BP, bed bath, and ADL.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of the PACE program.
• Ability to work without close supervision or professional guidance and to exercise independent judgment.
• Knowledge of physical, mental, and social needs of frail older adults.
• Able to manage changing priorities per participant needs.
• Effective interpersonal skills to work with participants, caregivers, and staff.
• Ability to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to be self-directed and work independently.
• Requires physical strength to perform essential functions of the job (e.g., assist participants with mobility challenges).
• A minimum of one year of experience working with the frail or elderly.
• Proof of medical clearance for communicable diseases, including a TB test.
• Proof of all immunizations being up to date.
• Proof of current CPR/BLS certification required or requirement to obtain within 30 days of employment.
• Proof of valid CA driver’s license, personal transportation, good driving record, and auto insurance as required by State law.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual: Spanish.
• A state-issued driver’s license, personal transportation, and auto insurance as required by law.

Pay

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $22.00 to $26.00 per hour. The final compensation offered will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, education, certifications, geographical location, and business needs.
