  • The caregiver will not be required to drive the client or run errands

Client Needs

The best caregiver will be calm, patient, observant, and comfortable providing consistent structure and de-escalation. The client generally keeps to himself but may have behavioral outbursts, including head-banging when upset. He can become aggressive and is described as strong and tall for his age.

A caregiver should be able to:

  • Recognize signs of escalation and use calm redirection
  • Maintain close supervision due to elopement history
  • Follow established behavioral and safety plans
  • Remain composed during aggression or self-injurious behavior
  • Use the client's interests—especially animals and hands-on activities—to build rapport and support regulation
