About the role

Founded in 1982, Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay is a not-for-profit, faith-based Life Plan Community located along the southern shore of Chesapeake Bay. We provide quality home health and home care services to individuals in the greater Tidewater Region, including Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Portsmouth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine, scheduled personal care services to clients, including bathing, grooming, and assistance with activities of daily living.
  • Assist clients with mobility, transfers, and positioning using transfer devices.
  • Help clients with toileting needs, including assistance with bedpan, urinal, bedside commode, toilet use, and incontinence care.
  • Plan, shop, prepare, or assist with nutritious meals and prescribed diets.
  • Administer medications as directed, verbally prompt or assist clients to respond to electronic medication reminder systems.
  • Perform homemaking services such as bed making, light housework, laundry, and errand running with client/family's agreement.
  • Drive to clients' homes throughout the community (mileage reimbursement provided).
  • Observe, report, and document client status and the care or service furnished.
  • Perform other activities as assigned, including but not limited to reading and recording, temperature, pulse, and respiration, Foley catheter care, basic infection control procedures, and emergency procedures.
  • Groom clients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • PCA certification.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Driving Record and Insurance.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination.

Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding, patience, and a caring attitude, especially during difficult moments.
  • Dependable, trustworthy, punctual, and respectful of client privacy.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and transfer patients safely.
  • Physical ability to walk up at least 2 flights of stairs and stand/walk for at least 4 hours.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, push, pull, and reposition clients.
  • Using hands and fingers to grasp, move, or maneuver small objects (during grooming or feeding).
