About the Role
Provide assistance to residents in an Assisted Living Community with activities of daily living as needed according to individual and physician-directed Care Plan.
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance to residents with activities of daily living (toileting, ambulation, eating, transferring, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, etc.) according to the Care Plan.
- Assure residents are dressed appropriately when in living areas of the home or outside the building.
- Assist and teach residents self-help skills to maximize independence and freedom of movement.
- Perform personal care tasks based on training criteria; perform basic personal care tasks after completing a 45-hour course, and special health-related tasks after completing an 80-hour course, as approved by doctors' orders and signed off by an RN.
- Provide personal assistance as needed, requested, or required.
- Respond to hand bells or other signaling calls.
- Assist residents with transportation as indicated by the Executive Director/Administrator.
- Assist the Activities Coordinator in carrying out planned activities.
- Help residents keep clothes in proper order and assist with making beds as needed.
- Provide residents with clean towels and washcloths as needed.
- Assist with using, emptying, and cleaning resident equipment (urinals, bedside commodes, bed pans, wash basins, shower chairs, etc.).
- Assure residents receive snacks and assist them at mealtime as needed.
- Help orient new residents admitted to the home.
- Notify the Executive Director/Administrator, Resident Care Coordinator (RCC), or Staff in Charge (SIC) of any need for medical attention or changes in resident status.
- Apply all rules and regulations pertaining to the use of restraints as ordered by physicians in writing.
- Report any accident or incident to the Executive Director/Administrator, RCC, or SIC.
- Help maintain the self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety of each resident.
- Work cooperatively with staff and relate favorably to residents, their families, and visitors.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information and adhere to requirements.
- Apply all adult care home accident, fire safety, OSHA, and emergency procedures.
- Familiarize yourself with and apply the Adult Care Home Residents' Bill of Rights, assisting residents in exercising their rights.
- Ensure careful treatment of adult care home equipment and proper utilization of supplies.
- Read and adhere to all Adult Care Home and employee policies.
- Participate in job-related continuing education as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned in accordance with licensing rules and administrative policies.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation (e.g., progress notes, incidents, changes in condition).
- Perform other duties as required by circumstance.
Requirements
- Must have or obtain a C.N.A or Personal Care Aide Certificate (80-Hour) with Personal Care Aide Training within 6 months of hire.
- Must be able to read, write, understand, and follow directions.
- Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and reach overhead as needed.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have no substantiated findings on the NC Personnel Registry or Health Care Program and maintain during employment.
- Must have a clear SBI record and maintain during employment.
- Must complete a two-step tuberculin skin test (first test prior to hire and second test within two weeks of the first test).
